Fledglying Screech Owls in Central Park! The first in 50+ years!
I photographed these guys on Tuesday April 9, 2002 when a friendly birder/astronomer allowed me to hold my digital camera up to the eye peice of his low power telescope that he was using as a spotting scope. I had to crop away part of the edge of the photo, but the result is quite nice I think. This was th ebest of about 4 photos that I took through the scope.

These screech owls represent the first observed fledging of screech owls in Central Park since about 1950 I have been told. Truely an amazing sight. They have flight feathers and have been observed flying at night.

These are three of teh four Long-Eared Owls who roosted near Bow Bridge in Central Park in 2004.
